Moses’ 5 Excuses - Unavailability

Moses’ 5 Excuses - Unavailability

UNAVAILABILITY

This is part 4 in the series regarding the 5 excuses that Moses gave throughout his life.  These include identity, ignorance, unbelief, inadequacy, and unavailability.

In this post, we’ll discuss unavailability.  Check out the previous 4 posts in the series.

Moses’ Excuse: Exodus 4:13 – But he said, “O my Lord, please send by the hand of whomever else You may send.”

  • This is the final excuse that Moses gave the Lord.  Even though God had proven HIs providence and showed Moses His signs, Moses was not convinced.  He did not believe that he could do the task with God’s help.

God’s Solution: (vs. 14) So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses, and He said: “Is not Aaron the Levite you brother? I know that he can speak well.  And look, he is also coming out to meet you.  When he sees you, he will be glad in his heart.

  • God’s solution is a bit unusual from His other solutions to Moses’ excuses.  All this time, God was patient with Moses and answered his questions, because Moses’ heart was willing.  In this instance, Moses was not willing.  He simply refused.

Application: God’s plans will always come to pass, whether you are part of the plan or not.

  • God’s plan was to deliver the Israelites from Israel.  That would have happened with or without Moses.  Even though God’s plan was to have Moses be the deliverer of His people, because of Moses’ continued excuses, the agent of deliverance came in the form of both Aaron and Moses.

  • A very good example of this is in Esther 4:14: “For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish.  Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”

Let us examine ourselves!

  • Are we giving God excuses when He wants to use us for His plans and purposes?

  • Do we have doubts of our own self-worth, or are we really doubting God?

  • Are our excuses just a way to say that we are not available to answer His call?
