God performed the first marriage in the Garden of Eden. It was God’s idea to have a family in the first place. Families came before written languages, cities, nations, etc. Family is the most important institution in the world. The first miracle that Jesus performed in His ministry was at a wedding at Cana. He was underscoring the importance of the home. Because if the home goes, the nation is going to go.
A home is a basic unit. The home cannot be separated from the health of the nation or province. In the home character is formed, integrity is formed, the values we live by are made clear, goals are set, attitudes are formed that last a lifetime,
Is your home built on a solid foundation? Is your house built on a rock? Is your home filled with tension and ready to break up?
Our modern life puts tremendous pressure on the home and the family.
Nehemiah 4:10 - Then Judah said, “The strength of the laborers is failing, and there is so much rubbish that we are not able to build the wall.”
Rubbish on television, films, magazines - making fun of the home and marriage. Making light of the holiest of institutions. When the home fails, society will fail. Unless we have a spiritual revival and the homes renewed, the nation is going to be destroyed. There is no way to escape the judgment of God unless we come back to Christian/God-fearing homes.
Ezekiel 16:44 - “Indeed everyone who quotes proverbs will use this proverb against you: ‘Like mother, like daughter!’
Parents ought to set the example in front of the children of Bible reading, prayer, integrity, truthfulness, and honesty, and let them see in us, Jesus Christ.
Sex is a holy gift from God to be used within matrimony. But now people have it as a manner of easing their appetites without a relationship.
We have not taken the word of God into account. God has laid down the rules and regulations for a happy home and we have broken them. Come back to the Bible and the Word of God.
Family is still the most durable institution in the world. Today, people want love without commitment. Family needs help and encouragement. God is interested in your family, your marriage, and your children.
Ezra 8:21 - Then I proclaimed a fast there at the river of Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek from Him the right way for us and our little ones and all our possessions.
They were seeking God’s will for their family. Have you gotten on your knees and brought your children to God’s feet? The answer to successful family life is God and surrendering your lives and hearts to Christ.
The husband-wife relationship is the key to the family’s success. The home will only rise so high as the husband-wife relationship. The children see the love between the husband and wife. Be careful who you fall in love with. Make sure that they are God-fearing and love Christ.
2 Corinthians 6:14 - Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?
There must be spiritual oneness. There are three people that make up a marriage - the husband, the wife, and God. Many marry without knowing the ideals and goals that God has set for marriage.
Ephesians 5:31 - “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”
You must be people who are ready who are emotionally ready to leave home. You are to love your parents, confer with your parents, and honor your parents. Many parents mess up marriages when they don’t understand when to set their children loose. The wife and the husband must be the first priority while still loving, honoring, and seeking the advice and the counsel of the parents.
God wants marriages to be permanent - until death do us part. There is an adjustment period and you keep adjusting for the rest of your life. There will be problems and disagreements. But you’re to accept each other faults. Your wife and your husband are not perfect. It’s not always romantic, but we are to be together in a relationship that God has formed. We become one flesh.
There must be a lifetime commitment when you come to Christ. It’s forever! Don’t entertain the idea of separation or divorce. There is no problem you can face that cannot be solved by the Lord Jesus Christ.
God’s ideal is for the husband and the wife to be faithful to each other. We don’t understand how vile and terrible it is to break the marriage vow with that type of sin - adultery. It may seem old-fashioned, but the word of God never changes. It’s the same yesterday, today, and forever. The same God who hated the sins of Sodom and Gomorrah hates the sins of today.
