What does God call an Abomination?
In this 3 part series, we’ll go through what the Bible says about certain topics through specific verses and discuss their meanings. There are several things that God specifically calls out as being an abomination to Him and it is important for us to know what those are.
This is part 2 on a series of what God calls an abomination. This post will cover homosexuality and beastiality.
HOMOSEXUALITY
Leviticus 18:22 - You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.
This is a clear command from God regarding same-sex actions. God intended for this sort of expression to be within the confines of marriage. God designed marriage to be between a man and woman.
While this is considered a controversial stance in today’s political climate, it is important to know what God’s Word says on the matter and understand God’s will. This is not the only Bible verse prohibiting homosexuality (see below).
Leviticus 20:13 - If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.
1 Corinthians 6:9 - Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,
Romans 1:24-32 - Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.
Homosexuality was a sign of paganism and idolatry in Biblical times, which was against God. Homosexuality used to be thought of as something people practiced, but that has recently changed to be synonymous with a person’s identity.
Yet, God considers it an abomination. As such, the argument that this homosexual nature or identity is born of love is moot. God is love. This abomination of a practice is not.
Similarly, many believe that homosexuality is inbred nature (ie. they were born that way). God created man and woman to be the first family unit. Adam and Eve were the start of that unit. God created the marriage and desire within the confines of a hetrosexual couple.
The homosexual practice, nature, identity, or whatever today’s culture calls it, all come about as a result of sin and the fall of man.
BEASTIALITY
Leviticus 18:23 - Nor shall you mate with any animal, to defile yourself with it. Nor shall any woman stand before an animal to mate with it. It is perversion.
Sex with animals can also be lumped together with homosexuality as another perversion in God’s eyes. God intended for sexual expression to be within the confines of a marriage, between one man and one woman.
Given the current state of the world, all sorts of sexual perversions are becoming more commonplace and encouraged in society. While the world may think these acts are acceptable, it is important that we know that God considers it an abomination
