Isaiah 53:5,6
Isaiah 53:5,6 - But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
Isaiah spoke of the suffering the Messiah would endure long before it actually happened. The whole chapter of Isaiah 53 is a portrayal of the suffering that the Messiah would have to endure.
The sin-less, blameless Lamb of God came down from Heaven as a man to take our punishment. We were sinful and guilty. We had no way to redeem ourselves before a Holy God. So, the Father sent His only Begotten Son as the ultimate sacrifice. Christ’s death paid the price for our past, present, and future sins.
He was placed on the cross like a common criminal so that we would have a place in heaven. He was struck down, spit upon, and mocked. Why? To be the propitiation for us.
He came to save us, while we were still far from Him. We were like sheep who wandered away and yet He came for us. We were His enemy, but He laid down His life for ours. We were unworthy, yet He endured the wrath of God on our behalf. He experienced physical and spiritual agony for our sakes. His love for us was so great that He took our sins on HImself and stood in our place.
What a wonderful gift we have received with this grace and salvation? Can anything else compare?
