2 Corinthians 12:9
2 Corinthians 12:9 - And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
It is through our weakness that God works. Can a potter mold a lump of clay that is already baked? No, he can only mold something that is malleable. When we are broken and weak, that is when God works on us. But, we have to think past that pain and listen to what He is trying to tell us. C.S. Lewis wrote a famous line about this in his book, ‘The Problem of Pain’. It reads:
Pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pain: it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world.
The world tells us to bury our weaknesses and boast of our strengths. But, our strengths come from God, and His glory and power are revealed through our weaknesses. We can celebrate our weaknesses knowing that Christ covers it and uses it for His plan and purpose.
Many a time, God has used people who the world would reject to fulfill His divine plan.
God chose Abraham to be the father of His chosen people while he was still childless and creating idols.
God chose Moses to lead His children, the Israelites, out of Egyptian bondage even though he had a speech impediment.
God chose David to succeed Saul as king, even though he was the youngest in his house and a shepherd boy.
God revealed His revelation to the Apostle John, a man renowned for his fierce temper.
And the list goes on. We don’t need wealth, doctoral degrees, or a face that launched a thousand ships for God to use us. His strength is made perfect in our weakness.
